2 Day PVsyst and HOMER Energy Workshop
Determine bankable energy yield assessments
Design hybrid renewable energy systems by integrating HOMER and PVsyst
Course Objectives
In this 2 Day Masterclass, participants will:
Understand PVsyst, a powerful software that simulates the energy flow through a photovoltaic system to estimate energy output, performance ratio and other parameters
Integrate HOMER and PVsyst results to analyse, design and size hybrid renewable energy systems and microgrid systems.
Explore the physical and technical context of the project’s components and its effects through PVsyst
Understand Siting and Meteo definitions. The need for geographic and meteorological data and their implementation in PVsyst.
Learn about Orientation. Fixed mounting vs trackers. Capturing light reflections from the ground.
Explore the electrical system: modules, inverters, and cables.
Understand the energy losses due to Shading on panels: types and their implementation in PVsyst.
Identify other causes of losses and how they can be remedied
Learn how to configure, view and export reports and data output from the simulation. Use the PVsyst optimization tool to vary several parameters such as tilt and azimuth to maximize output.
Use PVsyst to size and analyse off-grid solar photovoltaic systems based on user load profile.
Optimise the sizing of individual components in hybrid energy systems including solar, battery and diesel back-up that may or may not be grid-connected.
Your Trainer
Joachim Baumgaertner is a specialist management consultant in the renewable energy sector, advising technology start-ups, growth companies, financial institutions and strategy consultants on a broad range of issues across the whole clean energy value chain, including complementary areas of business planning, technology strategy, financing and carbon management.
He is involved in the project development of utility-scale solar power, solar greenhouses and waste-to-energy plants worldwide, including Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ghana, Puerto Rico, and India.
Joachim has a Masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of Stuttgart. He has conducted research into off-grid hybrid renewable energy systems with solar photovoltaics, wind turbines, batteries and Diesel engines at the Centre for Renewable Energy in Loughborough where he was awarded an MPhil. He gained an MBA with Distinction from the London Business School with a particular focus on Finance and Entrepreneurship.
Course Participants
PVsyst is a powerful software that simulates the energy flow through a photovoltaic system to estimate energy output performance ratio and other parameters. It is the de facto industry standard for bankable energy yield assessments.
In this interactive workshop, we discuss the physical and technical context of the components and effects such as horizon, nearby buildings, lightning rods or ageing, and explain how they are implemented in PVsyst.
A wide variety of people to benefit, such as:
